An engineer from Austria invented the printed circuit board in the 1930s as a part of a radio set. In the mid 1940s, the USA started using this technology on a very large scale to made radios for use in the military. After the first World War, the US government released the invention for commercial use. Over the years, the PCB was used in consumer electronics of all types and PCB manufacturing become widespread through the country as well as worldwide. Today every type of device that uses electronic parts makes use of PCBs. They can be found in all types of gadgets and gizmos such as radios, TVs, children’s toys, automobiles and aircraft, just to name a few.

One of the most commonly used are the flexible PCBs which are lightweight, thin and non-rigid, meaning that they can be made to fit in all sorts of spaces for the manufacturer of tiny electronic gadgets. PCBs can be purchased from manufacturers or they can be made by the average electronic hobbyists who possesses the correct tools and materials.
